PERFORMANCE BENCHMARKS FOR ISU PRESIDENT WINTERSTEEN

12-6-17

Greetings President Dr. Wendy Wintersteen, Iowa Board of Regents and all—

In October, the Iowa Board of Regents selected Dr. Wend Wintersteen as the new president of Iowa State University. (ISU)  Performance benchmarks for new president Wendy Wintersteen are posted herein.  For comparison, University of Iowa President Bruce Harreld’s performance benchmarks and progress towards meeting them are posted on website:  http://www.iowalive.net/uiperformancebenchmarks.htm.   For consistency, comparable benchmarks will soon be released and posted for University of Northern Iowa president Mark Nook.

The benchmarks for ISU President Wendy Wintersteen are presented  below and will be updated, to provide numerical evidence of performance improvements accomplished as Wintersteen takes charge and manages the university.  President Harreld selected and set the goal for U of I to achieve performance at Best National University level—which would be at 100% for ISU in the following table.  Harreld’s adopted metrics are used for consistency and the lack of better performance metrics in use at ISU.

The percentages in the following table show ISU’s performance towards meeting those National levels for the dates shown.  Engineering and Veterinary Medicine Colleges now serve Wintersteen as excellent examples of what rather good ones look like.  To Wintersteen’s credit, she served as Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, which is performing better than average, even though not shown as improving.

It would cost at least $1.9 million to have academic performance measurement specialists prepare this table.

Numbers were derived using Iowalive's proprietary algorithms and database.  Anyone claiming to have better numbers is asked to provide them.

The following table shows ISU’s Integrity and Operating Efficiency levels, including the benchmark levels.  To Wintersteen’s credit, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is the top performer, with Engineering a very close  2nd.   The numbers in the table are for comparison and for determining  progress and are not claimed to be absolute values.

Integrity Index Score Derivation Methods are Posted on Website: http://www.iowalive.net/integrityderivation.htm

Operating Efficiency Derivation Methods are Posted on Website:  http://www.iowalive.net/deriveopeff.htm

Correlation Coefficient for Integrity Index Score and Operating Efficiency is a Strong, Positive .86.  High Integrity People Despise Waste and Consider it Equivalent to Theft.

*Average on a scale of 0 to 1,000 tops, where significant integrity starts at 300, evil is at 250 and below.  Grand larceny scores 40.

It would cost at least $450,000 to have performance measurement specialists prepare this table for ISU.

Anyone Claiming To Have Better Numbers Is Asked To Provide Them

President Wintersteen is requested to provide digital copies of improvement plans as they become available.  Iowalive net workers will evaluate them and report improvement expectation levels for each—at no cost to anyone.
