UNI TOPS 25 UNIVERSITIES IN BASKETBALL ENJOYMENT PER BUCK

3-29-16

Greetings, Mike Hlas, C. R. Gazette Sports Columnist and all—

Continuing with March Madness, in your 3-27-16, 640 word column you wrote, But once, just once, could I have a team from Iowa to cover in an NCAA men's basketball Final Four?”

Your desire for higher men’s basketball enjoyment inspired Iowalive networkers to evaluate and report the following table of numbers showing fan/donor enjoyment hours per $100 spent.

You will recognize the names of several universities you cited as making it to a past final four—while Iowa’s universities did not.  Fair enough!!

However, the table certainly shows Iowa’s fans/donors are not short changed in enjoyment at all.  In fact, UNI tops the enjoyment list!!

Granted those UNI fans might be happy campers for starters, but they are certainly getting the best enjoyment return for their buck!!   Notice that teams in this year’s final four in red did not rank near the top.  Are their program and ticket costs etc. too high?  Are fan/donor expectations too high?  Are they greedy?

The following table shows the rank order of enjoyment in men’s basketball per buck spent.

Numbers Derived Using Iowalive's  Proprietary Algorithms, Sources and Database

Anyone Claiming To Have Better Numbers Is Asked To Provide Them & How They Were Derived

It is left as an exercise for you and the students to prepare a table showing coaches’ enjoyment per $1,000,000 compensated!  Would those rankings correlate highly with those in the table above?  What would UNI coach Ben Jacobson say?

What say you, Mike?  If you and the students won’t step up to the task, should Iowalive net workers once again fill a glaring void?

Sincerely,

Iowalive      A growing network of volunteer citizens and  professionals for improving Iowa
