THE NUMBERS AND CONTENTS HEREIN SHOW WHY THE URBAN EDUCATION NETWORK OF IOWA (EUN) IS IOWA PUBLIC ENEMY # 3

7-10-10

THE  UEN COST  IOWANS over $5.5 BILLION, OF WHICH AT LEAST   $3.7 BILLION WAS WASTED,  IN PAST 10 YEARS--1999-2009

The UEN consists of an organization representing and lobbying for Iowa's 8 largest school districts:  Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Dubuque, Iowa City, Sioux City and Waterloo.  About 25% of Iowa's public school students are enrolled in these districts--that dominate the School Watch and In Need of Assistance lists, for academic failures.

The average operating efficiency for these schools over the ten-year period is a deplorable 33%, compared to 15% for UEN organization administration..

During the ten-year period Iowans paid taxes totaling $35,299,886,000--according to Legislative Fiscal Services!   Of that amount, at least $16 Billion was consumed by K-12 public schools.  The 8 larger K-12 UEN school districts consumed 34% of $16 Billion, or $5.5 Billion.

The following table shows UEN financial and social impacts on  Iowans in the past ten years alone.  Total Accumulated Tax increases on Iowans totaled $18 Billion for the 10 period, as shown in the following table.  The UEN, directly caused at least  $3.6 Billion of that increase.

THE UEN IS CREDITED WITH CAUSING AT LEAST $3.6 BILLION OF THE TOTAL $18 BILLION INCREASE

IOWA'S 49.5% TAX INCREASES, IN 10 YEARS, ARE STAGGERING!

SCHOOL PROGRAM FAILURES LOBBIED BY EUN OFFICIALS

New Math, Constructivism, Whole Language, higher teacher pay, Phases I, II & III, teacher training, special education, kindergarten, state aid to schools, teacher in-service days, smaller class size, kindergarten, pre-school, self esteem and feel good about failure, and the next failure will be the Core Curriculum. The total cost of these failed programs is at least $11 Billion to date 5-1-10.  The academic and mind development impacts on our kids are included in the 65 year and mind development charts farther below.

Anyone at the EUN who claims to have better numbers is asked to provide them for evaluation and comparison with those in the tables--which were derived and provided at no cost to anyone.

Derivation methods for the numbers included use of Iowalive's proven algorithms and data base, as discussed on website: http://iowalive.net/  .
