UNDERSTANDING WHAT THE TEEN MIND DEVELOPMENT CHART SHOWS

The Iowa State Board of Education is promoting a NEW State Test that is no better than the existing state test, that tests reading, math and science skills.  The Board claims the existing state test does not test what is being taught in the schools.  What the Board doesn't fathom is the reason the existing reading, math and science tests don't test what is taught in the public schools is that the schools no longer teach reading, math and science skills.  They teach memorization!

Iowa needs a better state test that will not only test reading, math and science skills--but will test mind development as well!!

This following headline and statement in the 1-25-12 Des Moines Register should surprise no one. 

 Iowa gets lower marks for education performance, reform!!

“Iowa slipped in national rankings during the past year when it comes to its education reform policies, including academic standards, school choice programs, charter schools, online learning and schools’ ability to hire good teachers and fire bad ones.”

You asked for public input for reforming Iowa's public schools.  Here it is!!

In a previous letter Iowalive gave you the opportunity to examine what the 70 Year Education Chart showed, discussed farther below.  In addition, the Teen Mind Development Chart was also introduced, as a result of the decline in student achievement and severe increases in school funding.

The Decline in Teen Mind Development Immediately Followed the Decline in Student Achievement, Shown in the 70 Year Education Chart--As One Should Expect.

 

It is a Unique Chart Shown by no Others, to Iowalive's knowledge.

 

The More You Study the Chart, the More Sense it Makes

 

The Chart Follows What You Would Expect to See Happen to Muscle Strength if Proper Muscle Development Exercises Were Suddenly Stopped--and if Improper Muscle Development Exercises Were Started.  Improper Exercises Damage the Muscles and Prevent Further Development--Just as For the Mind. 

 

Stopping Proper Math and Reading Exercises in Public Schools, (Presently Used Effectively by Judy Hintz, at Educational Resources in West Des Moines--and Internationally) and Replacing Them With Improper Math & Reading Exercises, in the Early Grades, is Very Harmful to Mind Development.  The Improper Exercises Impair the Mind and Prevent it From Further Development in the Upper Grades, Where it Was Supposed to be Further Developed--and Applied. Such Application Greatly Developed the Mind--Prior to New Math & Whole Language, Which Stopped it.      

 

Teachers (Educators), Politicians, and Lawyers Were Not Well Known as Problem Solvers Before Their Minds Were Impaired in the Public Schools.  Their Many Failed Attempts to Fix the Schools, After New Math, Should Have Been Expected and Understood.     

 

It is Sheer Folly to Expect Educators, Politicians and Lawyers to Fix Iowa's Failed Public Schools.  A Very Unique Person, Having Both Education had Business Skills, Such as Judy Hintz, Is Capable of Fixing the Schools.  Judy's School Routinely Teaches and Brings Students to Grade Level, or Above, Who the Public Schools Failed to Teach--and Falsely Claim Can't be Taught.

 

Failed Attempts to Fix Iowa Public Schools Have No Measureable Improvement Expectations, No Measureable Milestones, No Consequences for Failure--and No Recovery Plans for the Students--When the Attempted Fix Fails. 

 

The Damage Done, and the Obstacles to Progress Imposed, by the Iowa State Education Association (ISEA) Teacher's Union, Go Undetected and Unresolved by  Minds Impaired in the Public Schools.  As a Result, the ISEA Serves as the Major Obstacle to Fixing Iowa's Public Schools--Which Remain Hopeless as a Result.

Average Iowa Teacher Graduated From High School In 1990, School Administrators in 1985 and State Board of Education Members in 1985!

Anyone Claiming To Have Better Numbers Than Those Herein Is Asked To Provide Them.

Estimated Cost To Have Competent Experts, Such As Those At Washington University In St. Louis, Provide This Chart Is At Least $400,000.

Constructivism Was Activated to Blame Social Conditions and Students for Decline in Test Scores

 

Left Vertical Axis Shows Percent Change In Student Achievement Grade Level, in Grades 3 Through 8,  As Corrected for Grade Inflation in Years 2000 to 2010.  For Example, Language Fell 80% of a Full Grade Level from 1960 to 2010, in Grades 3 through 8. All Other Subjects Fell As Well, in Grades 3 Through 8.  Failure to Learn the Basics in Grades 3 to 8, Caused More Decline in Grades 9 through 12--For a Total 2 Grade Level Decline, According to a Dept. of Education Official. 

 

Right Vertical Axis Shows Change in Total School Spending Per Student Started Rising Out of Control in 1980--Due to ISEA Teacher Union.

 

Student Achievement in All Subjects Followed the Same Downward Trend--NO exceptions.

Creation of the Iowa State Education Association Teacher's Union Drove Costs out of Sight and Forced Further Decline in Student Achievement With its Forced Retention of Poor Teachers. 

 

The Decline in Student Achievement Results in a Substantial Decline in Teen Mind Development as Well.  The Mind is Like a Muscle, it Must be Worked Properly With Math, Reading and Music Exercises, to be Developed.  Grades 3 Through 8 no Longer do this. Lack of Mind Development in Grades 3 through 12 Resulted.
