2004-2005 Biennium IOWA STATE SCHOOL RANKINGS--4TH & 8TH

The following rankings for ALL Iowa schools were prepared from DOE data posted on the Iowa DOE website—which only allows comparison of FIVE schools.   Since the schools are listed in rank order below, you can either scroll down the list to find your school, or use the edit, find function--and then enter the name of your school.  The rankings are based on 361 reporting school districts, since five school districts has ten or less students per class, as noted in the table.  Schools reporting scores for 4th grade only have a ranking advantage over other schools, but that is the way it is for a state that has no school quality control system in place.  Similarly, there is no way to determine for sure how many student scores some schools fail to report—despite NCLB requirements.

School cheating remains rampant, as proven by teachers fired for cheating in Dallas and Chicago--and by 5,500,000 references of school cheating listed by the Google Search Engine.   In addition, Iowalive has a 2003-2004 Biennium ranking of Iowa schools that has been adjusted for school integrity--that is posted on website:  http://www.iowalive.net/ranking8.htm  which is linked from this website.

The Iowa DOE has yet to release 11th grade scores for the 2004-2005 Biennium.  One can only conclude they are being withheld until after the State Legislature has approved school funding.

Because of school cheating, the low Iowa Proficiency standard, and unavailability of high school test scores, schools reporting 100% of 4th or 8th students Proficient doesn't mean very much.  As noted in the table,  12 schools report scores of 100%.  In reality, this means the students would be scoring at the bottom 10% of students in the 18 non-Asian countries trouncing American students in math and science.

Once Iowa schools take improving student achievement seriously, they will fix the curricula, protect, encourage and reward whistle blowers and will implement effective quality control systems to learn what is going on in the classrooms when the doors are closed.  Iowa casinos care much more about what happens to casino money than school officials care about what is happens to our kids.

School names are color coded per the following legend so you can see at a glance the percentage range of students scoring one or more grades below enrolled grade level.  Schools with blank spaces have whole grade sharing and do not report scores.  Schools scoring above >99% Proficient are shown as 100.  *** denotes schools having fewer than 10 students in the grade.

 LEGEND:

GREEN:  15% OR LESS SCORE ONE GRADE LEVEL OR MORE BELOW ENROLLED GRADE LEVEL

SCORED 100% OR MORE PROFICIENT--PROVING STATE STANDARD IS FAR TOO LOW
