SAM GRAY WANT'S MORE THAN $2.4 BILLION K-12 FUNDING INCREASE

4-26-16

Greetings House District 68 Candidate Sam Gray, C. R. Gazette Editors and All—

Sam Gray’s 4-25-16, 320 word Gazette guest column whined on and on about Iowa K-12 schools getting only  2 percent, 0 percent, 2 percent, 2 percent, 4 percent, 1.25 percent, and 2.25 percent funding increases in the past 7 years.

Had he done the math, he would have honestly reported the schools got at least a whopping $2.4 billion total increase and wasted, or will waste,  $1.5  billion, in 7 years.  That’s what Iowa’s K-12 schools do!

The following two tables show the math as well as the waste breakdown.  Since Sam was likely ‘educated’ in the public schools we won’t be too tough on him.   He just doesn’t know better and can’t connect the dots.  Neither can the Gazette editors, who blindly accepted and carried the guest column—as usual.

School budget increases aren’t for just one year.  They are forever, and Sam and the newspaper editors ought to know that.   They ought to know about compound interest as well.   It adds to the total 7 year funding  increase—and waste.

Nothing in the  following tables will surprise superior educators Dr. Sue Atkinson or Judy Hintz, owner of Educational Recourse Associates in West Des Moines.  For years they have observed and commented on school failures—and offered school fixes.  Judy routinely fixes kids public schools have academically abused.  http://www.iowalive.net/judyhintzteachespoorkids.htm  http://www.iowalive.net/judyhintzteachespoorkids.htm
