NO NEED TO CLOSE SCHOOLS DUE TO WORST WASTE AND POOR MANAGEMENT IN C.R. SCHOOL DIST.
SOURCES OF WORST WASTED MONEY IN CEDAR RAPIDS SCHOOL DISTRICT
Cedar Rapids school officials want to close schools rather than reallocating worse wasted money to keep them open. They don't want to reduce waste and taxes, they want to increase their salaries and benefits. Even worse, they don't care what closing schools does to student achievement.
Here is a table showing the sources of worst waste in the district, and it isn't the schools they want to close.

CEDAR RAPIDS SCHOOL DISTRICT WAS WARNED OF FALLING ENROLLMENT & WAS CRITICIZED FOR NOT HAVING A SPACE UTILIZATION ANALYSIS, BEFORE BUILDING MORE CLASSROOMS

Mr. Dick Fredericks served on the school district's year 2000 Facilities Task Force with community members Dr. Yang Ahn, Gary Anhalt, Connie Clark, Jim Craig, Mike Dawson, Laura Gesme, Crystal Grave, Percy Harris, Pat Marshall and Emmett Scherrmann and wisely warned them of their bogus 14% enrollment growth projection, as shown in the following chart. The committee was also given ALOT's (a group Against Local Option Sales Tax) wise chart showing the projection for a continuous decline in enrollment, which we all know has happened.
Superintendent Finch, the Task Force and school board all refused to listen. Emmett Sherrmann was very vocal in ignoring Dick's warning!
As a result, school administrators, the school board and teacher's union are now moving to close neighborhood schools and to force neighborhoods and students to suffer abuse for school district blunders.
Teacher union demands for higher pay (for teaching fewer students), more time off, smaller class sizes and resistance to removal of poor teachers serves to make matters worse.
Closing neighborhood schools to provide more money for bloated teacher and administrator pay raises makes no sense and must be stopped.
CEDAR RAPIDS SCHOOL DISTRICT OFFICIALS DUPED ALL BUT THE ALOT GROUP WITH 14% BOGUS ENROLLMENT GROWTH PROJECTIONS

CLASSROOM UTILIZATION
9-28-1999 ALOT NEWS RELEASE
A LOT has now learned that the Cedar Rapids school district has 900 classrooms and 17,820 students enrolled at last known count. This averages to just under 20 students per classroom. Meanwhile, Jim Craig, a tax increase promoter, is complaining that his child is in a classroom with 27 students. In addition, Cedar Rapids school officials are claiming that more money is needed to build a new school and to add more classrooms.
These same school officials have refused to provide A LOT with their building space utilization analysis, that should have been completed and made available long before their asking for a $300 Million sales tax increase.
The questions are very obvious.
