4 OF 8 GAZETTE GUEST COLUMNS WOULD IMPROVE UI PERFORMANCE

9-28-15

Greetings, Governor Branstad, Gazette Guest Column Writers and all—

The misguided Cedar Rapids Gazette abruptly took a slight turn for the better.  Its Sunday 9-27-15 edition actually carried 4 of 8 guest columns that would improve UI performance—a word used an astounding 4 times in the columns—to Iowalive’s knowledge a first in the editorial pages of the Gazette!!  KUDOS to Nixon (1) and Johnson (3) for making the breakthrough!!  Nixon also wrote “results” twice!  But neither column would improve UI performance, as would leader Bob Roelf’s column, as evaluated in the table below.

The column writers wrote 4,000 words, but provided few performance numbers, so once again Iowalive has filled the void, with numbers--at no cost to anyone.

W. T. (Lord) Kelvin (1891) Popular Lectures and Addresses “....WHEN YOU CAN MEASURE WHAT YOU ARE SPEAKING ABOUT AND CAN EXPRESS IT IN NUMBERS, YOU KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT IT, BUT WHEN YOU CANNOT EXPRESS IT IN NUMBERS YOUR KNOWLEDGE IS OF A MEAGRE AND UNSATISFACTORY KIND."

Please note Iowalive’s selection of performance measures places strong emphasis on student values—under emphasized by UI, and that Schmidt’s column overlooked when he wrote in Edu speak, First and foremost, the UI is an organization that represents the values of scholarship, research, and the advancement of human knowledge.”   Students are the customers and successful universities will provide highest value to their customers—with honest numbers to prove it.   If UI merely “represents” scholarship, research and advancement of human knowledge, it won’t significantly benefit student values in the following table!  Student numbers matter most—not professorial Edu speak!

Iowalive websites http://www.iowalive.net/hostileuiprofs.htm   http://www.iowalive.net/stinkatui.htm and  http://www.iowalive.net/uiperformance.htm  already provided uncontested numbers to fill the numbers void.  Numbers from these websites will provide the benchmarks for President Harreld’s UI performance—unless he provides better student related measures.  Stay tuned.

UNIVERSITY OF IOWA PERFORMANCE CAN BE TURNED  AROUND, BUT IT WON’T BE EASY

4 of 8 guest columns, IF effectively implemented, would produce 7% gain in number of graduate job offers, in 5 years.  Harreld alone would produce 3%.

Anyone at UI who says number of graduate job offers and amounts can’t be adequately determined, should find another job!

PROJECTED IMPACT OF 8 COLUMNS, TOTALING 4,000 WORDS IN 9-27-15 C. R. GAZETTE, PONTIFICATING ON HARRELD HIRING ETC. AT UI.  4 COLUMNS MAKE FAVORABLE IMPACTS, WHICH IS VERY COMMENDABLE--EVEN THOUGH THE WRITERS DID NOT SITE ANY EXPECTED RESULTS.   IT IS POSSIBLE TO TURN UI AROUND.   Source:  Iowalive  9-28-15

ANYONE CLAIMING TO HAVE BETTER NUMBERS IS ASKED TO PROVIDE THEM.

Iowalive’s reporting produced awareness of UI conditions—which will result in Iowalive’s 2% gains shown in the above table.  Iowalive has yet to make suggestions or recommendations for improving UI performance.

The following websites show why so much remedial teaching is required at Iowa’s 3 state universities.  This needless cost is not sustainable.
