MOODY'S AWARENESS--CEDAR RAPIDS WASTES $184 MILLION & WANTS TAX INCREASE

4-25-16

Greetings, Tax, Spend and Waste Mayor Corbett and All—

The table below shows you operating Cedar Rapids at 30% efficiency and wasting $184 million per year.  Despite all that waste, you want an annual 15 cent, $825,000 city tax increase to fund the library, operating at 59% efficiency.

And that’s after voters soundly slapped you for wanting an even larger 27 cent, $1,485,000  tax increase.  Even the Gazette editorial board, struck by the recent full moon, wants to wait on the tax increase—but they will eventually back it because that is what they do!!  They blindly backed the $1,485,000  increase that voters soundly rejected.

Now the moon struck Gazette editors say “voters need more information about how current funding is insufficient, and what steps staff have taken to pinch every penny they do have”.  For the first time ever they ask “have all opportunities for greater efficiencies been explored? Have new sources of revenue been considered? Are there opportunities for savings through more regional cooperation?” They claim all of this should be explored before turning to a tax increase.

Is Marion listening?

Are Gazette editors finally listening to the folks in hopes the folks will in turn listen to them?

Editors directed all of their attention at the library, operating at 59% efficiency.

Editors conveniently ignored downtowner Corbett and City Hall operating the city at 30% efficiency—and annually wasting $184 million.  That unfavorable waste is sacred!

The full moon beams that struck the editors missed their worst tax, spend and waste targets!!

The question arises from the following table etc.

Is Cedar Rapids in a financial crisis leading up to a huge blowup at downtowner City Hall?  Moody’s dropped its credit rating to Aa1 in April  2014.  What’s next—Aa2?  What’s  been done to prevent it??  Is a city operating at 30% efficiency a very good investment?  Read on and stay tuned.

TAX, SPEND AND WASTE CORBETT HAS YET TO SEE A TAX INCREASE HE DIDN’T LIKE

INSIST ON CORBETT’S RESIGNATION

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA SHOULD LEARN FROM HAVING THE MOST WASTEFUL CITY GOVERNMENT IOWALIVE HAS EVALUATED TO DATE.  ITS  GENERAL GOVERNMENT & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ARE VERY BAD & CONTRIBUTE UNFAVORABLY TO OTHER CITY ORGANIZATIONS IN YELLOW COLOR.   TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, MAYOR CORBETT WANTS AN $825,000 TOTAL TAX INCREASE (0.3% OF CITY ANNUAL BUDGET AND 0.4% OF ANNUAL CITY WASTE) TO FUND THE LIBRARY.  EVEN THE LIBERAL C. R. GAZETTE WANTS TO WAIT ON THE TAX  INCREASE!!!  Source:  Department of Management & Iowalive  4-22-16

DESCRIPTION OF MANY EXPENDITURES OF INTEREST THAT ADEQUATELY REFLECT THE CITY'S EXPENDITURES.   ESPECIALLY TROUBLESOME EXPENDITURES ARE HI-LITED IN YELLOW COLOR.  BETTER, BUT NOT A GOOD PERFORMER,  IS HI-LITED IN GREEN.
