1. Avoid Judy Hintz, at Educational Resources, to prevent her from explaining how she routinely teaches kids to grade level or above, for an average total cost of $670. These are kids Iowa’s public schools can’t teach, at an average public school total cost of $14,300 per year!
2. Get absolute “clarity” on NCLB waivers—to know exactly how to keep the money and cheat to meet them!!
3. Install a costly teacher performance measurement system to reveal poor teachers who have already been identified by any capable principal.
4. Avoid any mention of scrapping Chapter 20 of the Iowa Code—which makes it nearly impossible to fire poor teachers.
5. Install a teacher merit pay system--that pays teachers more, no matter what.
6. Never admit that smaller class sizes, higher teacher pay, teacher training, special education, mandatory kindergarten, preschool, teacher in-service days, new math, whole language, and Area Education Agencies all failed to improve student achievement!
7. Talk, don’t listen!
8. Take NCLB money and run
9. Blindly lobby for more money for ‘education’
10. Avoid the truth like the plague
11. Treat school cheating as a solution, not as a problem.
12. Keep the teacher's union happy at all cost!
No doubt Ms. Fandel is now working on more such talking points--for you and Governor Branstad!!
Is this Heaven?? NO! It’s Iowa!!!
