THE LONG HISTORY OF IOWA PUBLIC SCHOOL FAILURES

Improvement in education will only come when the nonsensical theory of defective students is abandoned because it denies equal opportunity to education.

Iowa’s choice of the 40th national percentile as the student proficiency standard – to avoid accountability for poor curriculum and poor teaching (using the theory of defective student) – is coming to haunt them as they find it impossible to meet world standards.  More money for school teachers and administrators cannot be the solution when increased funding allowed the poor curriculum and poor teaching to avoid accountability.

The following 65-year chart of Iowa student achievement clearly shows this but the Des Register and Cedar Rapids Gazette refuse to publish the information in spite of the fact the data came from University of Iowa in their 2001 annual report of Iowa education--and from other states sources named in the chart.

Cost per student continues to soar out of control, to at least $12,000 per student in 2010.
