GENETICALLY MODIFIED GRAINS--SAFE FOR HUMANS, OR NOT?

Greetings, Non-GMO Project Officials and All—

The argument over the safety of genetically modified grains is heating up with Cargill’s efforts to supply food companies with non-genetically modified ingredients.  Unfortunately the argument is generating more heat than light on the issue.  And Cargill hasn’t denounced GMO grains at all.  It is rather responding to customer wants.  Beyond that, the dispute has some similarities to man-made global warming. Such as:

1.       There is no convincing data that either causes the damage antagonists claim.  Not even close!!

a.    Truth be known, the reason there is no such data is because measurements are not sufficiently accurate to produce it.  

b.    Engineers describe such a situation as being in the “noise level”, and they don’t get too excited about it.   They have more  compelling things to do.

c.     Misguided zealots are more vocal and try to create ‘truth’ out of the noise.

                                               i.     They could even concoct and try to claim the heart damage caused by 70 years of GMO grain consumption!

                                              ii.     Global warming, debunked and changed to climate change, enthusiasts also concoct data to prove their beliefs

2.    Zealots claim If a feared condition is blindly taken to the extreme, dire consequences will result.

a.    It’s like frog enthusiasts claiming a frog floating down the Mississippi River on a log is determining if it will ever reach New Orleans.

b.    And they will take it to the extreme of the weight of the frog equaling the weight of the log, and sinking it to get stuck in the bottom and never reaching New Orleans.  See!!

Iowalive net workers prepared the following table to put numbers on GMO things in need of quantification.   The numbers show there is no reason for major concern nor for serious criticism of Cargill or Monsanto etc.   The numbers also show the overwhelming challenge to produce accurate measurements to show the amount of damage GMO grains alone, actually cause.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Noise level issues are of interest but pale in the face of out-of-control federal debt that is dangerously threatening national security far above the noise level!!  And the existing numbers make it obvious without taking it anywhere close to an extreme.
