$4.6 MILLION NOT NEEDED TO FIX UI FACULTY COMPENSATION DEFICIENCIES

Greetings, UI President Bruce Harreld and  alló

Vanessa Millerís  article in the 12-2-15 Cedar Rapids Gazette quoted you as saying, 'So this entire $4.5 million we're asking for is going to go right up against fixing the faculty compensation deficiencies we have in a number of colleges'.  'And secondly, toward the recruiting of higher talent faculty.'  'We are quite comfortable where we are, but it's about what's going on in the classrooms.'

The numbers in the tables and following herein, support and expand on your statements as follows.   AT 2%, to 6%, UI is not over compensating faculty and profs as much as other universities, which are at 6% to 12% over compensation.   But UI faculty and profs are underutilized 28% to 33%, due to over staffing by poor management, compared to other universities at 10% average.  That is why $4.6 million is not needed to fix the compensation deficiencies you cited.  Fix the over staffing problem and explain why greater over compensation is a problem for students, (customers) rather than a fix.  That will improve what is going on in the classrooms and the number and amount of graduate job offers as well.  www.iowalive.net/4foruipresident.htm
