Several years ago, legislators increased Iowa’s sales tax from 5% to 6% (a 20% tax increase) for public schools to waste on infrastructure at their pleasure, which has been at least 25% waste, and will increase to 30% (at least $5 billion) if not stopped with better school oversight and management.

Now the wasteful schools want to extend that awful 20% tax increase to 2050 for a total tax increase of from $15.45 billion to $16.12 billion, according to William  Petroski’s revealing article in the 3-22-18 Des Moines  Register.

You must stop this nonsense.  Give Iowa taxpayers a brreak!!!  Roll  the tax increase back to 10% and have the law require schools to tie the infrastructure money spent to a commitment to achieve at least 3% increased student achievement and Teen Mind Development with it, for each and every expenditure exceeding $1 million.  If they can’t or won’t do that, a project is not worth doing—such as the $44 million Taj Mahal administration building in the Cedar  Rapids school district that didn’t improve student achievement, nor did district officials expect it to.   It was built for their egos.  http://www.iowalive.net/closenoschools.htm

The following  tables and chart show how schools have wasted taxpayer’s money in the past, that had no such strings attached.  The schools have perpetuated building of boring little boxes, school rooms, that  stifled student achievement.  And they won’t stop if given more money with NO meaningful strings attached.
