CEDAR RAPIDS'  DISASTROUS SCHOOLS CLOSING 'MASTER' PLAN

12-12-17

Greetings, Superintendent Brad Buck, Cedar Rapids School Board and all—

Please forward to Master Plan Committee members and all administrators.  Thank you.

Make no mistake about it, 18 Cedar Rapids schools are GOING, GOING, GONE!!

Iowalive net workers defy anyone to search the Cedar Rapids School District website and find a specific purpose for the Master Plan Committee, which on 12-9-17 Gazette reporter Molly Duffy called the school system committee—and cited its declining membership, poor meeting attendance and focus on closing and/or demolishing and rebuilding schools, after closing Polk Elementary, the best performance improving school in the district.  Click here.

C. R. SCHOOL DISTRICT HID OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT DATA AND CLOSED POLK ELEMENTARY

Superintendent Brad Buck posted 700 words of ‘educator’ eduspeak (see example below) on website http://www.cr.k12.ia.us/departments-services/dr-buck-introduction/   without stating a meaningful purpose for the Master Plan Committee.  Other school officials posted on http://www.cr.k12.ia.us/departments-services/facilities-master-committee-commentary/   did no better.  Neither did Buck, or any of the officials, concisely describe and rank the district’s problems for the Master Plan Committee members to consider and address.   They never mentioned student achievement, integrity or operating efficiency.  What else matters?

And if they were honest, district officials would use the 65th National Percentile Rank (NPR) as do many, if not most schools in the nation.

The Master Plan Committee was condemned to failure from the start, as the district wallows in dismal student achievement State rankings and can’t meet the lowest student Proficiency Standard in the Midwest—the 40th NPR!!!!!   This low 40th NPR standard allows Cedar Rapids school officials to deviously claim students are ‘proficient/expert’ when only scoring as well as the bottom 40% of the nation’s students.

It alsoo makes it about 30% easier to graduate, which inflates graduation rates as well!

It is strongly recommended that district officials study the Education System on the following website and then reestablish the  Master Plan Committee.   Once the district has solved the problems in the above table, the Committee can face the advantage of having open span buildings where internet supported teachers, who have been trained how to teach concepts effectively,  can teach 40 or more students.  Having walled-in classrooms sized to accommodate small class sizes for teachers not trained to teach, are like jail cells serving no useful purpose at all.  Walls add cost and eliminate flexibility to accommodate improvements, that must be made for the kids!  And if the district built new schools in the near future, it would have buildings that accommodate at least 2,074 (13%) of the students in special education, just as in 2016.    That is how school officials perpetuate  poor teaching and poor management failures!!   They plan for it!!  And the Gazette won’t report it.

IOWA K-12 EDUCATION SYSTEM DEFINED AND SCORED

CEDAR RAPIDS EDUCATORS EDUSPEAK--Last Updated 9.27.17

Notice that ‘investigate’ and ‘consider’ used by school officials are non-measurable verbs.   Any dope can ‘investigate’, ‘consider’ and ‘change’--and not expect to, nor actually improve anything.  Same for Reimagine, Re-envision, and Reinvest.  And of course, ‘conversation’ is just talk!!  Educators refuse to use the word ‘improve’!  They also refuse to state measurable ‘improvement’ expectations, how they will be achieved, when and at what cost!  Here is their typical eduspeak about closing schools.

Our journey to Reimagine, Re-envision, and Reinvest in our students and school facilities is underway. This effort is driven by a number of important factors and we believe that we have a responsibility to our students, staff members, and community to investigate all options as we consider the factors impacting this conversation. These include:

TRANSLATION OF THE ABOVE EDUSPEAK & DISASTROUS MASTER PLAN

The C. R. school district has recently lost 1,000 students to Marion Home School, Linn-Mar and Prairie and it’s because they have newer buildings.  It’s not because they have much better State student achievement and honesty rankings, that thousands of parents have searched and visited via links on website: http://www.iowalive.net/  cited above.  Officials are going to close 8 schools and demolish 10 and replace them with new (not better) buildings, no matter what!!  The Master Plan Committee is a public relations exercise only.  No help wanted!!  SEND MONEY!!

THE BOTTOM LINE

Cedar Rapids should develop an honest school system that works and doesn't discriminate against poor and minority students!!   Then it can improve buildings as necessary to make it at least 30% better.   The disastrous Master Plan does neither!!  And the Gazette doesns't care!

Blessings to the organized group of wise citizens resisting the disaster--for the kids' sake!
