ANYONE CLAIMING TO HAVE BETTER NUMBERS IS ASKED TO PROVIDE THEM FOR EVALUATION AND COMPARISON
For the moment, presume that Cedar Rapids and Corridor officials want to improve the standard of living etc. for area residents—which includes small businesses. Presume also the officials were so interested they hired performance specialists to determine the integrity and operating efficiency of several area organizations —so contributors and obstacles to progress could be determined. The total cost for obtaining this data, for the 50 organizations in the table above, is estimated to be about $4.8 million. But the cost has already been avoided.
As Iowalive promised previously, the following table presents baseline Integrity and Operating Efficiency ranking numbers for contributors and obstacles to Cedar Rapids and Corridor community--progress.
A contributor to progress has a net positive impact while an obstacle to progress has a net negative impact on progress and improved integrity. The larger the integrity number in the table, the greater net positive the impact. The smaller the number in red—the greater the net negative impact. In addition, the larger, or more influential the organization is, the greater is the absolute impact of that organization.
The table shows smaller organizations tend to be more integrous and efficient. From the table below, one can easily determine the best method for improving the standard of living in Cedar Rapids is to make much better use of the $209 million wasted annually. For comparison, about $200 million is annually wasted in Johnson County. How and when will the obstacles be identified and removed so this money can be put to much better use—such as in the pockets of the taxpayers—for them to spend as they wish?
It is their money, you know!
Better Mayor Corbett has shown sincere interest in reducing city waste. Who will be contributors to progress--and help him? Unless Cedar Rapids area officials, in red in the table, provide their help, the waste Corbett removes will be offset by increased waste in their organizations.
Where is the leadership to help Corbett and prevent this from happening?
The Cedar Rapids school district is operating about 6 too many schools—with grossly overpaid staff and administrators—producing unacceptable student achievement The value produced by Grant Wood AEA and Kirkwood C. C. is at least 25% less than it should be, for the money consumed.
Marion is using an ill conceived, main street round-about to drive many small businesses out of business—and that lowered its numbers in the table.
We hope and expect the June 30, 10 numbers in the table will be much better. We commend Better Mayor Corbett for taking the first step in the right direction--to make it happen in Cedar Rapids. Who of you will do likewise??
