C. R. DECEPTION, MUNICIPAL DEBT, WASTE, VERNON & LOSSES FOR CASINO INVESTORS
Greetings, Gazette Editorial Board and alló
DECEPTION, MUNICIPAL DEBT, WASTE, MONICA VERNON, AND LOSSES FOR LOCAL CASINO INVESTORS
Local taxpayers are covering the losses on Cedar Rapidsí hotel and convention center. KCRG is no longer part of the Gazette Family of Companies. KCRG finally reported the truth.
This was all sparked by a Facebook post informing voters, in Tuesdayís runoff election for Mayor of Cedar Rapids, where their taxes are going. The same posting also cited Monica Vernonís role in creating this financial drain referencing a Cedar Rapids Gazette article from May 24, 2011.
The following posting has gone viral.
The taxes covering losses cited in the Facebook post has drawn a raft comments. Former City Councilman Don Karrís comments on this post have revealed much of interest not known before. Given the recent history of Cedar Rapids city government, we will take former Councilman Karr at his word.
Had the Gazette been honest and done some honest investigative reporting, it would have learned how City Hall deception handled the loss. Large conventions were falsely touted as coming to town while smaller conventions were actually expected. A casino was kept secret as a scheme to help bail out the large conventions failure. The casino failed twice and the deceptive City Hall/casino investors gamble crashed and burned and came home to roostówith huge casino investor losses.
Mayoral candidate Vernon was an insider who most likely was heavily involved with this. At least she hasnít claimed she wasnít. Mayoral candidate Hart hasnít claimed he knew nothing about it either. And the Gazette hasnít asked them and reported. What did the outgoing Mayor of Cedar Rapids, and candidate for Governor of Iowa, Ron Corbett know about this and when did he know it? Once again, the Gazette hasnít asked him and reported his answer.
Neither of the 3 candidates has shown any interest in the blight of the failed Cedar Rapids school district, that is losing students to neighboring districts, and closing neighborhood schools and stupidly chasing wild spending on false fixes. Stay tuned for more on this costly debacle that an organized group is wisely fighting!
So whose face will replace Corbettís on the following sign and who will carry on the culture of corruption and waste in Cedar Rapids? Voters are left with the odorous task of deciding the lesser of the evils involved. It is believed to be Hart at this time.
