ELCA PRESIDING BISHOP FEELS BUDGET COLLAPSE--CALLS FOR COUNCIL LEADERSHIP
In his 11-13-09 news release, ELCA presiding Bishop Mark Hanson announced a planned 10% ELCA budget cut for 2010--and then called on the Council for leadership to get the ELCA out of the mess it created for itself, under Bishop Hanson's leadership. Budget cuts for years 08, 09, and 10 will total about 37%, unless someone in the Presiding Bishop's office finally responds and advises us otherwise. It would be a stretch to think the cuts will stop in 2011.
Meanwhile, CORE, WordAlone and LCMC are joining to help people transition out of the ELCA. Website http://faithfultransition.blogspot.com/ gives people some advice on what not to do, such as not to immediately leave their ELCA congregations and not to believe the ELCA won't continue to deteriorate.
While it might be too early to announce the spiritual death of the ELCA, it would be very difficult to Biblically argue otherwise. The ELCA is definitely in decline and chaos--with no leadership to clear it—especially with the Presiding Bishop citing “bound conscience” nonsense, as he digs deeper into the ELCA non-biblical hole. The congregational outcry, coupled with the budget cuts and failure of the ELCA Bishops to agree on a path to progress, streamline the path to further deterioration.
The Presiding Bishop continues to ignore our questions. Things are moving so fast that redirecting ELCA benevolence, to send a message of protest, will soon to change to redirection to prevent throwing money down the ELCA rat hole.
