CLOSING POLK AND MONROE SCHOOLS IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Greetings to all the children and parents at Polk and Monroe schools in Cedar Rapids—

From your loving school superintendent, Dave Benson:

Happy Valentine's Day!!

I care so much about you that I am going to close your neighborhood schools.

Am sure you understand times are tough and I don’t have nearly as much money as I want to pay for salary increases and the $57 million to staff, operate and pay for the $44 million new administration building.

As you travel to your new schools I will be thinking about you as I move into the new administration building.  Moves are disruptive and tough to make.   But I am sure you will work and learn to like your new school--just I will work and learn to like the new administration building.

Make no mistake about it, the rubber stamp school board will bow and agree to close these schools without a second thought.

Sincerely with my love and effort to keep the following road sign in place,

Superintendent Dave Benson
