RICH & POOR EARNINGS GAIN AT EXPENSE OF MIDDLE CLASS

The following chart shows the earnings increase ratio for poor Americans exceeded the increase for all others from 1991 to 2005.

Earnings increased 78% for the poor and by only18% for the middle class.  Earnings of the rich rose 54% while lower middle and upper middle rose by 23% and 22% respectively.  The multiplication factors for these earnings numbers/ratios are shown in the following chart. 

Earnings are wages and salaries and do not include government benefits, pensions and investment income.  Earnings ratio (multiplication factor) = increase in earnings by Class divided by % increase in earnings of Middle Class.
