53 FAILING SCHOOLS IN DES MOINES & CEDAR RAPIDS METRO AREAS
Attention Des Moines Register and Gazette editors and all—
53 Des Moines and Cedar Rapids metro area schools are failing academically--29 in Des Moines and 24 in Cedar Rapids metro. The Des Moines Register and Cedar Rapids Gazette editors refuse to report this--or the state school district academic rankings shown in the partial table in the post below—and fully posted on website http://iowalive.net . How come? What prevents you from reporting it? Answer that question and then overcome the obstacles cited in your answer and you will have started on the path to better newspaper reporting performance—and profitability.
When Iowan’s visit the Iowalive website and find information of value or interest, they question why it is not reported in your newspapers—and then they reasonably become more and more upset with you. By now you should have figured out that what you are doing is not very profitable—and results in your newspapers’ being downsized—or put up for sale.
You might also wonder and report why school superintendents don’t ask the Department of Ed. for such school rankings—and report them to the school boards. You might also ask school officials for their plans to get off the academic failure lists and bring students up to international standards. As you know, Iowa is ranked about 27th in the nation, which is ranked about 24th internationally. Iowa’s metro area schools are buried very deeply in the academic dumper—and are getting fat pay increases for being there!!
C. R. METRO AREA SCHOOLS ARE FAILING ACADEMICALLY
24 of Cedar Rapids area schools can’t meet Iowa’s lowest student proficiency standards in the Midwest. http://www.iowalive.net/iowa%20proficiency%20std.htm .
1. 1--Marion’s Linn-Mar School District is In Need of Assistance for math deficiencies
2. 2--Similarly, Linn-Mar’s High School, Excelsior Middle School, and Oak Ridge year have 2 to 5 year academic failures in reading and math. Echo Hill Elementary is on the Watch List for Reading deficiencies.
C 3--College Community has 3 schools—Prairie High School, Prairie Point & Prairie Creek on the In Need of Assistance List.
Marion’s Starry Elementary and College Community’s Prairie Heights Elementary School are on the Watch List for academic failures as well.
Why are these academic failures kept a secret and mystery, with school officials blaming parents (who were educated in the public schools), poor and minority kids for the failures---while C. R. Polk Elementary was closed for successfully teaching these and special education kids? These kids are also taught effectively by Judy Hintz at Educational Resources Associates in West Des Moines! See the chart of her student’s gains below the following table of Cedar Rapids metro area school failures.
And of course, you have the Cedar Rapids school district, with the following 18 Schools In Need of Assistance, for chronic academic failures—and to add insult to injury, C. R. officials closed Polk Elementary.
